Data Preparation Tips

Before Export

  • Remove Practice Swings: Delete warm-up shots that aren’t representative
  • Check Club Labels: Ensure clubs are properly identified
  • Verify Shot Quality: Remove obviously errant shots
  • Organize Sessions: Group related practice sessions

File Management

  • Descriptive Names: Use “SkyTrak_Session_YYYY-MM-DD.csv” format
  • Backup Files: Keep copies of exported data
  • Regular Exports: Export sessions frequently to avoid data loss
  • Version Control: Track multiple exports of the same session

Troubleshooting

Common Export Issues

Problem: Export option not visible in app

  • Solution: Update to latest SkyTrak app version; check account permissions

Problem: CSV file appears empty

  • Solution: Ensure session contains actual shot data, not just practice swings

Problem: Unable to email large files

  • Solution: Use cloud storage or split large sessions into smaller exports

Problem: Missing shot data

  • Solution: Verify all shots were properly recorded during session

Import Issues

Problem: Golf Shot Analytics doesn’t recognize file format

  • Solution: Check CSV formatting; try opening in spreadsheet software first

Problem: Incorrect data values after import

  • Solution: Verify unit settings match between export and import

Problem: Duplicate shots imported

  • Solution: Most analysis software automatically prevents duplicate imports

Understanding SkyTrak Data

Available Metrics

SkyTrak provides these key measurements:

  • Ball Speed: Initial velocity off clubface
  • Launch Angle: Vertical launch angle
  • Launch Direction: Horizontal launch direction
  • Spin Rate: Total spin rate (combination of back and side spin)
  • Carry Distance: Distance ball travels in air
  • Side Spin: Horizontal spin component
  • Descent Angle: Angle at which ball lands

Data Limitations

SkyTrak doesn’t directly measure:

  • Club Speed (calculated estimates only)
  • Club Path
  • Face Angle
  • Attack Angle

Quality Indicators

Look for these data quality markers:

  • ✅ Consistent ball speed for same club
  • ✅ Realistic launch angles (7-15° for drivers)
  • ✅ Appropriate spin rates (2000-4000 RPM for drivers)
  • ✅ Logical distance progression by club

Maximizing Data Value

Session Planning

  • Consistent Conditions: Practice in similar conditions for comparable data
  • Focused Sessions: Work on specific clubs or shots
  • Adequate Sample Size: Hit 10+ shots per club for reliable averages
  • Document Changes: Note equipment or swing changes

Data Analysis Preparation

  • Clean Data: Remove warm-ups and obvious mishits
  • Categorize Shots: Group by club, shot type, or conditions
  • Note Context: Include course conditions, temperature, etc.
  • Regular Reviews: Export and analyze data frequently
